Assignment 3: Birthday Card

The steps that i took in the making of this birthday card was almost the same as what i've did on the previous assignment (calendar).

basically my birthday card explains the patience of most parents nowadays, who have to face more obstacles than what the old time parents did, especially on pleasuring and treating their children at best.

-the making-

the dinosaurs were done by hand with pens and scanned into computer with particular mode that i display down here.

i auto-traced both cartoons and paint it in illustrator by using live paint tool. after that i separated certain parts of the dinosaurs into two part, the first part for the cover and second part for the inner layer of the birthday card.

i colored the front cover with brown color, and gained more texture for the background by creating custom brushes so the background wont look too plain.

i put in some words at the back to signify how crazy and materialistic today's children is in demanding so many things especially entertainment stuffs, well everyone did that during childhood days didnt we?aha

For the daddy, i believe that he only need a single sentence. which will simply tells the kid his/her father's reaction on all those demands during birthday:) the dialog balloon was also done by using brush tool.

and last but not least. the short greetings which is hopefully can tell all the kids the reality about their parents.

so i guess this birthday card is suitable for a father who wants to teach their kid a bit of lesson and value of life :) that's it

Assignment 1 : Redesigning a logo

My design was done based on this logo as the main reference:

Durian is the main subject which I prefer to put on as

the major structure of the new version of the logo since it is quite popular among the communities in Malaysia and other countries around South East Asia.

I picked a picture of the fruit from the internet and trace it manually by using brush and pen tools. I also created some forms of brushes to generate more shape towards the edges textures and the surfaces of the fruit itself.

To make the fruit looks more 3D, I also set the surface with a little bit of gradient with 2 colors which is not too different. After the whole part of the fruit was done, I started to do the whole circle with to sizes by using the ellipse tool.

When everything came down to the words part, I made a half circle by using brush tool and write the words on it based on the shape I wanted.

I just found out that my design had been stolen ;(

thanks a lot to Dr.Ken for the information..well i'm not here to embarrass anyone.. but it's a pretty cool story to be shared since we're all still in a learning process, including understanding the ethics of doing artsy stuffs..

such a bad day..my heart is just full of hatred right now:( man

i'm gonna spend my whole life telling people how hard my life is to have a classmate like this terrible kid:

Ya-fu**ing-hoo!

i've already done my 2nd assignment which is festive calendar! here's the final design

but before i explain more about the whole things i just wanna let everyone who read this blog know about the early progress of my 2nd CG assignment. i made a pretty big mistake actually but luckily i still got time during the moment i realized those crappy steps i took :| poor me dumb kid wakkaka!

i picked Christmas Day and i was too excited-even forgot to read and follow the instructions given in the CG blog. so this is how my first attempt look like, and i'll show you guys more on how i turned it to the new one :)

so this is the original design, and how it supposed to look like when it's printed out which i did without referring to the instructions carefully:( yeah sometimes i can be dumb enough on doing stuffs, i admit that ahah..

December – Where Bigger Presents and Surprises Expected The Most!
The statement basically signifies the main atmosphere of Christmas Day in Modern Culture.

My design was done based on this calendar as the major reference:

The main illustration on the center (a Christmas tree, mountains, a huge present and a little house) was first sketched on a paper with black pen and then scanned in ‘black and white picture or text’ mode instead of ‘color picture’ and ‘grayscale picture’. I chose ‘black and white picture or text’ mode to get better and sharper shape of my illustration after it being auto-traced with ‘live trace’ tool.

After that I colored the whole parts of my auto-traced illustration with ‘live paint’ tool. The colors that I chose represent the typical mood of Christmas day itself, which is fun and exciting for most people especially kids. The main color of my design, light blue signifies the environments and surroundings of Christmas day which is closely related to snow and winter.

The unique thing about Christmas day is that most people around the world celebrate the festival in almost the same ways, there must be Christmas tree and snow (many countries uses fake one) although the place does not even have winter for example Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. So basically I believe that everyone can appreciate the same Design of Christmas Day calendar no matter where they come from.

The fonts on the calendar were all set on their position by using straight line and brush tool. I also added another public holiday for Malaysia which falls on December 18th 2009 which is Awal Muharam 1431 on the holiday notes. As the finishing I added some dingbats at the back of the dates.

So that's it! and i hope everyone loves it :)

Redesigning a logo of an international / foreign brand
yeayeahhhooo i'm so gonna pick this logo and as Dr. Ken have mentioned in his lecture, i gotta redesign this logo and make it closer to the local element and environment. i wont tell what i'm gonna do with this logo but maybe i'll just put up the screen shot of my work and the new logo as the output later :)
